London Docklands workshop school

Spruceway Mechanical Engineering School

Measured metalwork, clear drawings, and tutor-led practice for adults who want real hours on the machines — not slide decks about manufacturing.

Flagship course on the shop floor

The Foundation Workshop Programme is our primary offer: twelve weeks of supervised bench fitting, machine introductions, and an assessed project with a tutor-signed skills record.

You work in our Newfoundland Place bays with loaned PPE, shared tooling, and tutors who come from machining and maintenance backgrounds. Spaces follow machine capacity, so cohorts stay small enough for proper supervision.

From £2,450 per learner · evenings and Saturday mornings · age 18+

From the workshop floor

Learners talk about drawings, inspection notes, and the pace of the milling queue — the details that matter once metal is in the chuck.

“The Saturday lathe blocks were the reason I enrolled. I still write slowly in my logbook, but the inspection notes from week ten finally matched what I cut on the bench.”

Priya Nair · Career changer, Foundation Workshop Programme

“The mentoring clinic caught a misread tolerance on my employer’s drawing before I scrapped a boss. One hour, clear markup, and I left knowing which dimension actually controlled the fit.”

Marcus Hale · Maintenance apprentice

“I wanted orthographic views that a machinist could trust. The studio tutors made me redraw the same bracket three times until the section lined up with the bill of materials. Tedious, and exactly what I needed.”

Short workshops between cohorts

Between Foundation starts we run focused workshop days — print reading, fixture basics, and inspection drills. Check dates on the workshops board and reserve a seat while capacity remains.
