The official registered business name is Spruceway Mechanical Engineering School Ltd. The school was established in 2009, when a small group of machinists and college tutors leased bay space near Newfoundland Place to run evening fitting classes for adults who needed supervised hours outside full-time college.
Through the 2010s the school added a drafting room, a materials coupon bench, and Saturday machine introductions. Today Spruceway remains an independent workshop school: cohorts are capped by the number of lathes and mills we can supervise safely, and tuition stays tied to practical projects rather than remote lectures.
How we teach
Sessions move from print reading to the bench in the same week. Learners annotate drawings, cut under supervision, then record measurements in a skills book tutors sign after inspection. Mistakes are treated as material for the next setup, not as failures to hide.
Who you meet
Senior tutors bring machining, maintenance, and further-education teaching experience. Clinic hours and lab days are staffed by the same people who run Foundation evenings, so advice stays consistent across courses.
